Arzoo Swabhiman Nagrik Samiti was founded in Mumbai in 2008 as a citizens' welfare society, built on a simple observation: the schemes and legal rights meant to protect India's low-income families rarely reach the families themselves. Not because the entitlements don't exist, but because the paperwork, the eligibility rules, and the awareness needed to claim them are out of reach for most people. We set out to close that gap — one seminar, one form, one family at a time.
In 2012, that mission grew a second arm. Having spent years telling families what they were entitled to, we built a cooperative housing society, Arzoo Swabhiman Nagrik Sahakari Griharachana Sanstha, to help the same communities turn awareness into something they could live in: a home, built at cost, with no developer margin.
Today, our work rests on three pillars — rights & welfare awareness, government health-scheme assistance, and affordable cooperative housing — delivered through the same door-to-door, seminar-and-camp model we started with in 2008.
To make sure that no family is denied a right, a health entitlement, or a home simply because they didn't know how to ask for it — and to provide the hands-on, on-the-ground help needed to actually claim what they are entitled to.
• Rights & Welfare Seminars — the Right to Education Act, free and concessional medical treatment for BPL and low-income households, and pension schemes.
• Health Scheme Assistance — helping eligible families understand, register for, and use the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), including generating Ayushman cards and Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs.
• Affordable Housing — a member-funded cooperative building homes for the EWS, LIG and MIG income groups, priced 20–25% below the open market on a no-profit, no-loss basis.
Mumbai, Pune, Satara, Nashik, Ahmednagar, and other towns across Maharashtra, reached through our regular calendar of public seminars and health camps.
